When training benefits your employees, it also benefits your business. In today's business world, there are several training options to consider, such as online versus instructor-led training or canned versus custom-made courses. So how do you choose the right training for your unique business? What do your employees need to be successful in their roles?

Asking the Right Questions
Companies have many different reasons for investing in employee training. Practical reasons like safety training and orientation for new employees as well as job-specific training are all valuable. But what is it that YOUR business needs? Are there gaps in quality and service? What are they? Can top-performers provide direction to help close those gaps? Are you launching a new initiative that requires employees to follow a new process? Does the success of that initiative rest on the employees' understanding of the new process and ability to effectively communicate it to associates and customers? Asking yourself the right questions is the best place to start when making the important decision to invest in training for your business.

Tip:
When determining your training needs and goals, include employees at all levels of the business. Only consulting with management leaves out insight from employees that may have great feedback on what they need to succeed in their roles.
When deciding on training for your business, start with these questions:
What are the areas for improvement in my business?
What are my training goals?
What do employees need to know to do their job well?
What resources and budget can I devote to a training project?
Do any materials exist that can be enhanced and expanded upon?
How will I deliver the training?
How will I measure the impact of the training?
